Stuck wandering around and can’t find the Pokemon you need. We all know the feeling. In a cave apparently full of Onix, and all you get are Zubat. Sure you could just hop on your bike and get through as fast as you can, skip all them nice Pokemon on the way though. A couple of Hariyama go by that could have boosted your team. I sense a problem that can be solved. Read on to find out more.
So really why does this problem happen? If a cave wasn’t trouble to get through, we wouldn’t appreciate progressing. I remember being stuck in Cerulean cave, with no guide, low health Pokemon and school was about to start. I had to save in the middle of that! Adding low-health Pokemon to areas like that also lengthen the game. Cheap, yes. But its necessary to introduce some frustration to a game to make it a challenge. However we can all get a little peeved by the constant low levels, and not the Pokemon you deserve to be fighting.Go grab that Repel!
But more often than not, you guys run around with that repel, not using it to its full potential. Did you know that the repel is only as useful as the first Pokemon in your party? Let me explain. A repel will only be effective at repelling Pokemon of a lower level than the first in your Party. This can be useful to find the Pokemon you want from a certain area, such as Skarmory outside Stark Mountain. It only appears at level 56. So pack a level 56 Pokemon at the front of your party and use that repel. You will have a better chance as the only Pokemon that can appear are Graveler and Skarmory.
Another way this can be useful is finding those roaming wild Pokemon for the first time. Of course once you see it, you can check the Pokédex for its location, but before that you need a sound way of finding it. So what do you do? Go to a low level area, just enough so that your first Pokemon is lower than the Roaming Pokemon but high enough to not come across regular wild Pokemon. This trick has been useful so many times, and its named wrongly as a trick, because it only exploits the nature of the repel as its supposed to be used. Downside? Can’t be used to find lower level Pokemon such as Larvitar or Gibble that you might want to add to your team. Unfortunately I have yet to find a way of filtering high level Pokemon legitimately.
I hope you guys enjoy using this idea and share your thoughts in the comments below.
